It’s difficult to find a really good vanilla cupcake. Too often, what I expect to be a moist and delicate single-serve cake turns out to be dry, unfulfilling, and overly sweet. Here comes my vanilla cupcake quest. I was determined to find the perfect frosting ratio for a flavorful, moist, decadent vanilla cupcake. It had to be simple and uncomplicated, but still worthy of an occasion.

After experimenting with several recipes I found online and watching several YouTube videos the one that worked the best for me was the one made by Preppy Kitchen.

Preppy Kitchen’s recipe gave me the perfect blend of moist yet decadent without the overly sweet taste.

Can any frosting cream be used to top the cupcakes?

Absolutely! You can even use a pre-made frosting cream if you wish to save time. For those who want to make their own frosting I will be providing a recipe for it below.

Vanilla Cupcakes

Easy Vanilla Cupcake Recipe


Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F degrees and prepare a cupcake pan.

Step 2: Combine all purpose flour, baking soda, sugar, and salt together until combined.

Step 3: Add sour cream, milk, vanilla extract, melted butter, and eggs to a bowl and whisk together.

Step 4: Pour the wet mixture onto the dry one and whisk together until smooth.

Step 5: Scoop the batter and pour into cupcake cups. Make sure to fill only halfway into the cup so they dont overflow when baking

Step 6: Bake at 350F for 15-18minutes

Step 7: Cool cupcakes then top with a frosting of your choice

Ingredients

  • Cupcakes:

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted

  • 2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup whole warm milk

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 4 egg whites room temperature

  • 1 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract

  • Butter Cream Frosting

  • 4 cups of confectioners sugar

  • 1 1/2 cup of unsalted butter

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tbsp heavy cream

  • 1 tsp kosher salt

  • 1 1/2 tsp whole milk

Preheat oven

Combine all dry ingrediants

Combine all purpose flour, baking soda, sugar, and salt together until combined.

Combine all wet ingrediants

Add sour cream, milk, vanilla extract, melted butter, and eggs to a bowl and whisk together.

Combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients

Pour the wet mixture onto the dry one and whisk together until smooth.

Pour into cupcake pan

Scoop the batter and pour into cupcake cups. Make sure to fill only halfway into the cup so they dont overflow when baking

Bake and cool

Bake in the oven at 350F for 15-18minutes then cool for 1hour

Whip the butter for frosting

Whip the butter until creamy

Add in confectioners sugar and remainder ingredients

Add in the confectioners sugar and pour in the remainder ingredients. Mix until fluffy

Pipe the frosting

Pipe the frosting and create 3 small flower circles on your muffin.

Serve!
